... I’ve already tried boiling water and fire. They just move over a few feet.

I use the granules. Not sure the brand, Spectracide maybe. It kills the fire ants and my dog has never messed with it.

My dad taught me this:
Buy Bengal Gold roach spray and stick the little straw that goes in the spray nozzle into the mound and blast it a few seconds. Then pull it out and put it in another area of the mound at a slightly different depth and blast again. Do this about every 6 square surface inches. For a typical sized mound that would be 3-4 times. This method has never failed me. Once the little buggers rebuilt a much smaller mound nearby. But it’s because i ran out of spray and wasn’t able to spray the mound more than once and it was a pretty large mound.

Boric acid powder is supposed to be safe for pets. Terminix pest control uses that sometimes. (Not for termites.) It’s cheap and you can buy it at the dollar store. I bet spraying the Bengal then shaking Boric powder around the perimeter of the mound would do the trick. The ones that might survive the Bengal will crawl through the boric acid while attempting to rebuild and will die.

Diatomaceous earth will kill anything with an exoskeleton that crawls through it, so it’s a physical pesticide rather than a chemical one. It is pet safe, though you shouldn’t breathe in a big lungful of it when you spend it around.
Sprinkle in a thick layer over the anthill, give it a few pokes with a stick to get em riled up. You may have to repeat a few times. It’s also a good thing to dust around outdoor pet beds, doghouses, etc as it will kill fleas.
