Were moisture readings taken in these areas? Wallpaper on Sheetrock can trap moisture but you’d be crazy to rip out all the rock just to find out if it is wet.
It's not wet anymore....we fixed the problem...we just havent removed the mold yet and they are telling me that it growing in the sheetrock so the sheet rock has to be removed.

With the absence of water, mold will NOT continue to grow/colonize. Spores and fungal colonies will go dormant.
I’d peel some wallpaper back in a few indiscriminate areas to see what the sheetrock looks like.
Do these rooms/area smell earthy/sour? Do these areas exhibit any visible mold?

No

Some of the areas are still showing the presence of mold but it’s not getting any worse
Are you in the NOLA area? Any chance I can send you the report or can you recommend someone in this area to come look at my situation?

How large are the areas that exhibit growth? What’s the square footage of contamination?
Posted on 9/18/19 at 9:30 pm to HollyWoodCole
a closet in a bedroom, a small closet in the master bath, one wall in the master bed and an ac/closet
very small areas in each
i can send you my report if you want to take a look

What do you want?
There are no mold regulations in Louisiana. None. Zero.
There are no established airborne concentrations for mold in LA that are harmful or exceed any safe limit because again, there are no mold limits/regulations in LA.

The only law regarding mold that exists in LA is that if you hire a contractor in LA to remediate/remove mold, they must be licensed by the LA State Contractors Board for Mold Remediation.
The companies who test for mold don’t even have licenses because they aren’t remediators.

Molds are ubiquitous. If you’re worried about the possible contaminated sheetrock, take it out yourself.
You’ll save yourself a lot of money.
Tons of people have done their own mold removal. Katrina.

Lastly, check out what the federal government (EPA) has to say about mold:

If you’re not seeing mold in excess of 25 square feet and you’re not smelling earthy/sour odors, I’d do nothing but clean the visible areas with a fungicide and monitor the those areas for any changes.
You’ve solved the moisture problem, which is the biggest factor regarding mold growth.

What do you recommend?
I definitely plan to take down the wallpaper and clean up all the mold thats behind that.

Once you peel all the wallpaper off, the sheetrock might as well come out too.
Sheetrock can’t really be cleaned/disinfected after you pull all the paper off.
And let me tell you, wallpaper is a beast to remove from sheetrock. It’s ridiculously time consuming. Plus, the sheetrock gets damaged in the process and becomes porous. Now you’ve got a sponge for a wall.

A fungicide that you can buy at Home Depot/Lowe’s is named Concrobium.
My favorite fungicide is Foster 40-80 but you’ll have to get it from a distributor.
Aramsco is a Foster distributor in the NOLA area.

The wallpaper has been painted over and is already separated from the Sheetrock. We didn’t even know there was wallpaper there until it started separating and than when we realized we had a problem

You might have some luck then.

I may pull all the painted over wallpaper off the sheet rock this weekend and see what I’m working with. I’ll keep you posted.
Thanks for your insight.
