Anyone here have a recommendation for an asphalt sealer for my driveway? I have a year old driveway (~1500 sq.ft) that needs to be sealed, starting to grey a bit.

Are the latex/water based ones worth doing as a DIY project or should I just get a company come out to seal it with oil based product? Is oil based available for DIY?

Why would you seal asphalt?

after a year or so the oil/tar that was in it starts to deteriorate and some of the rock material starts to get rough and begins to come off as pebbles. So you add a sealing layer over the top to halt the erosion.

Not to say you don’t need to seal but there are roads in my hometown that have not been repaved 15 years and are still in excellent shape. Think of the traffic on a road compared to a driveway. My driveway is 10 years old and has never been sealed. If you have gas leaking on it that is another story.
