Pop Up Window Threatening to Shut Down My Computer

I suck at this shite, so any help would be appreciated.
Keep getting this pop up window every 30-45 minutes that says "Type the two words above or your computer will shut down in 3:00 minutes."
The words are in a white box with black text, similar to the security things you see when having to log into certain accounts.
Anyone ever experienced this? Any know how to get rid of it?
IN fact, it happened while typing this post.

Happened to me several months ago. If you type in that shite all hell breaks loose. I had to get a computer guy to get rid of it. So long as you don't type the words, its more a pain in the arse than anything.

I've typed the words a few times and it hasn't done anything... it just goes away.

Run this and see what it discovers.

Try Malwarebytes. It is free and it is a very good program to nuke any malware on your computer.

thanks. I tried to run the active scan, but my computer kept freezing.
i'm pretty sure there's some other spyware and shite on here that needs to be knocked out.

Did you get this from facebook? My friend has this same virus and got it from there. Whenever he tries to access antivirus websites or spamware sites it denies him access.

I really am not sure where it came from.
But my computer won't run virus scans now either. It freezes up every time and that's been the case with about 5-6 different ones.

Boot into Safe Mode and run the scans.
I use Prevx and have no problems with malware. It ain't free, but it's kicks malware in the dick.
It has a trial version so you might want to give it a test drive with the problem.

Dumb question, I know, but how do you boot in safe mode without doing an improper shutdown?

Safe Mode. Combofix. Malwarebytes. MS Security Essentials. Trust me, I do this a lot.

I got into safe mode and ran Malware bytes. So far so good. My compy is having a lot less problems than it has for months and no damn pop up box so far.
