How to get a working avatar picture

I've been on here for a few months and I'm up to date on everything so I'm not like lost on TD or anything
However, I've tried multiple times to get a working avatar picture, but it never works. I've gotten pictures that are 150x150 and less than 30 mbytes and they just haven't worked for me and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I've done stuff with photobucket and imgur too but I can't figure it out.
Can I get some help please? Like a guide of the process or something
