Xbox won't read games or DVDs

So I was playing NBA 2K9 yesterday afternoon with my roommate on my xbox and it was running fine. After I got back from work around 11 we decided to play another game, but when I turned the xbox on it went to the dashboard and was unable to read the discs. This is my third Xbox after the first two caught the red ring of death. Any ideas as to what maybe the problem?

I've got the same problem. It won't even recognize that disks are in there.

Yeah I think thats the same thing it just keeps telling me to open tray

So after my original post I decided to do some investigating and took apart my 360. I reset the lens and now it will play my discs. I am a techno genius! Not really just lucky i guess....
