Meh, not many standout contenders. Smash is alright but GOTY worthy? Nah.. Death Stranding had no business being nominated. RE2 is a remaster. Not really surprised Sekiro won it.
Good games, but no swinging dicks like God of War or Zelda or Witcher 3 this year.

Agreed. Major props to them for actually giving it to Sekiro.
This particular awards show has only been around since 2014 but their Game of the Year nominees and ultimate choice has been pretty damn spot on.

If you like Dark Souls type games or Bloodborne you should definitely get it. It shares a lot of their DNA, although it does plenty of stuff to make it feel unique too.
The action elements are forefront and the RPG elements are minimal, outside of exploration.
It's also really damn difficult too. If you enjoy very difficult, but extremely rewarding games, it's perfect.
