Talk to me about EA NHL 17 HUT

i picked up NHL 17 having never played one before. Began a franchise with Calgary on default difficulty, went 67-11-4. Much fun.
I learned the "tricks" to this years version such as the One Timer Slapshot from the Point, dekes on odd man rush breakaways, poke checks, how to bait the goalie to one side, etc.
So this brings me to HUT...
I get the basics of it.. buy packs to get good cards and construct a team to play against other people in my division online. win games to get coins
My questions:
1) Is this HUGE moneysink, like I suspect? is F2P viable?
2) What does a noob team start out with? All 83s?
3) How do you get coins aside from spending $$$
4) is it fun? It looks fun
5) Is the online community a toxic shithole like most?
6) do they constantly release "new cards" that are better, to get people to keep buying packs?

1. It is not a huge money sink unless you absolutely NEED to have the best lineup possible
2. I can't remember what I started out with, but up until about 2 weeks ago I was a part of #TeamNoSpend and have since only dropped $20 on packs (none of my pulls were worth keeping on my current lineup)
3. You get anywhere 800-1200 coins just for playing games online in HUT. When you get promoted to higher divisions, you get bonus coins as well, and more bonus coins if you win the division instead of just simply getting promoted.
4. I enjoy it. I am currently in Division 4 and I am still competing.
5. The online community actually is really small for NHL. Not a ton of guys use microphones, and so long as you aren't using your mic to just talk a bunch of shite, some guys will carry on conversations.
6. Their BIG release just happened with Movember cards. These specially marked cards are good because those cards will auto upgrade to a better version of the player if a better version is released. For example, if a Movember card is rated at 88 OVR that means that that particular player has a team of the week (TOTW) card and both cards are the same. Now if that player gets a team of the year card where his OVR is 90, then the Movember card will upgrade to a 90 as well.
Aside from that, you have TOTW and TOTM cards. There may be some other special promo cards, but it's not a huge deal.
-------------
Outside of all that, you could realistically fill all 23 spots with 86-87 OVR players for about 30K coins rather easily. I would focus on figuring out your preferred playstyle and finding out what synergy's work best for your style of play. Then you can start planning your roster build around those synergies. Also, another advantage of having non-base (MOV, TOTW, Player of the game) cards is that some of them carry more than one synergy with them which makes them more valuable, coin wise.
If you need anymore info just let me know.

I've bought the deluxe edition so technically not F2P for me but haven't spent any money outside that and have a team filled with 86-87's and I can compete with any team's talent
I love HUT and play almost every day

Thanks yall. Great answers.
Going to need a solid Left Handed Right Defensemen. My entire offense opened up on offline play once I
-put the camera on dynamic high. Is there a better option?
-realized I kept fricking up my one timers because I had a RH right defenseman
It seems Crash the Net and Tight Point are mandatory. frick the neutral zone trap!

I do stream HUT still. Saucer passing is good when your opponent is playing the passing lane over going for the hit, etc. I use it mostly as an outlet pass from my defensemen up to the forwards. Other times could be on a potential one timer. If they have a guy positioned between the one timer, sometimes a sauce pass could go over the stick.
I don't even know what pass assist line is. I turned all of the on-ice trainer stuff off unless I just forget. 99% of the time I don't pay attention to any of it.

The beauty of the synergy addition to HUT is that there is no longer a requirement to have certain players playing in certain positions. You could literally trot out an entire team of Centers if they fit your synergy style. You would 100% get absolutely destroyed, but you could theoretically do it. In all actuality, it's one of the most commonly used strategies in NHL games. Traditionally (and I don't know why) Your LW and LD players are left handed, and the RW/RD players are right handed. So just simply swapping them positionally in your lineup screen will work wonders for your team as far as one timers go.
In last years game mode, you had to pay serious coins to have position swaps accomplished. If you played them out of position, they lost a certain percentage off their stats unless you assigned them the position change card. That is no longer the case this year.

I was wondering about this. Didn't know if switching their sides would make Giordano suddenly drop from a 90 to a 83 or something silly.
thanks for all the help . whats your twitch?

Dynamic high is the best option I've found (not saying much) don't know how people play on anything lower as you can't see but a portion of the ice on the default setting
