Like making sure the computer runs? Or just in terms of progression for CPUs. Because as long as you run stock on your CPU you are never going to have heating issues

For 7 years I had an i5 3570k running in a cramped mid-tower with zero wire control and the stock fan at 80-100 degrees Celsius at max load with next to no crashing. I only just now switched everything over to a nice case and it lowered my max temps by 30 degrees, but for 7 years I abused that CPU and had zero problems. I'm either the luckiest SOB alive or people care WAY too much about CPU temps.

It should be noted that more tech is coming out that makes usage of more cores within gaming specifically (WoW going multi-core for example), but overall this is still true.
