how should I go about convincing the girlfriend to play co-op with me?
Get her to help you as you play through single player. Introduce her to the basic concepts, and she'll want to play co-op.

Would this be a good game for the Mrs. to play? She has been hinting at getting a game she could play too.

It depends I suppose, I tried to get the gf to play little planet figuring she would go for that but she didn't. I'm thinking I can hook her on this because she likes puzzles. She also wouldn't deny an opportunity to being smarter than me by figuring something out that I couldn't and then rubbing it my face. As of right now the only thing she will play is Archery and Bocce Ball on PS Move.

I'll give it a shot...but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Only problem with us is she gets frustrated and angry easily if we disagree about something, even if it is something very simple. There is never a debate or small disagreement/discussion about something it is always an argument. And she enters argument mode and what not. She takes any advice or instruction as what to do as some sort of belittling command. I'm probably not the best at explaining shite though, after teaching 7th and 8th graders all day I get in teacher mode with her sometimes lol. It could be fun but could end in a yelling disaster and thrown remotes.

haha, she's a woman, what do you expect?
Yeah, mine is too engulfed in people and us weekly to really give this a shot. But if I say I want her to play and i'm buying it for us to play together then it justifies my purchase. boom

Definitely have her play single player with you first. It does a really good job of introducing you to new concepts, so while even though some of the puzzels can be challenging it never really gets frustrating.

So I imagine people need to have a headset with voice capability to do the online co-op or it'd be quite difficult to figure out what to do.

I think that would probably be a good guess.
Or I can just stand in a spot and jump and hope you know what im talking about.

There things in the game you can do like gestures, mark where you want your buddy to put a portal, and countdown timers when you need to do stuff together. It is extremely well thought out.
Voice comms help, but you certainly do not have to have it.

I'm rather dense at times, I think I'd need specific voice commands lol. I have the Turtle Beach that is supposed to work with PS3 and XBOX haven't tried it yet with PS3 yet though.

Mission accomplished brother! I really didn't think it was gonna happen. I showed her game and tried explaining it of course she could care less,, she was upset I bought another game. I told her it was something we could do together but she scoffed and replied that wasn't a possibility much less plausible. Though the outlook was bleak, I held out hope. I bid my time for two whole days. My plan was to not start the game till she was in the room, that way she could overhear the dialogue and occasionally glance at the screen. At the beginning she heard the jokes and became intrigued. After a few levels she was asking me how it worked. At the start of a level I played dumb (sadly even at the first few simple levels I had real difficultly and did not have to pretend that much) i began feigning frustration, letting her figure it out. We began sharing ideas and solving it together. A little while later we were high fiving after a succesful test. Within an hour or so she was taking the controller when she couldn't express her ideas of what to do adequately enough or desired to work it out herself. She soon started keeping the controller for longer durations. Finally she asked if it was ok if she played while I watched. As of now, she's been playing by herself for about an hour and I'm sipping whiskey, getting drunk while comprehending less and less of each successive room. Tomorrow we shall conquer co-op! Now I need to figure out how to parlay this into peaking her interest in other games.
PS 1. Way too detailed but idgaf.
2. Probably lots of mistakes but half a fifth of makers 46 will do that.
3. Happy Easter and GL getting your wife to play.
4. Hopefully PSN gets fixed soon and we can do some online co-op.
