Honestly if you want to experience turn based RPGS in their glory, just emulate SNES/PS1/PS2 rpgs. There are literally hundreds to choose from and, the best are (imo) from 92 through 2000. I miss SNES era RPGs greatly. From Final Fantasy to Earthbound to Secret of Mana/Evermore to Lufia (2)....Terranigma...the list goes on. Arc The Lad (2 and 3 mainly) was pretty great for it's time. JRPGS have fallen by the wayside BIG time.

Bravely Default is pretty solid if you like traditional turn based rpgs as well. It's current enough.

I'm currently playing through all of the Trails of games, each is available on PC. Definitely a great turn-based RPG series.
