i don't find covers work well against the run at all, your linebackers first instinct is to play the zone so he leaves his position for a second before he'll realize its a run, now does it stop the run yeah sure but its not suited for run stopping and you have to be perfect on run commit because if your not he goes untouched into the endzone because everyone goes in and he goes out.

and i think playing as the linebacker is a mistake (maybe not for you) because your stuck playing a player whose going into a zone so if you miss your read you get burned. That and cover three leaves a small window in the middle of the field wide open for curl routes. you can't choose to stay in the middle with the LB because then the out with the RB to your zone spot would beat it. Every defense is hit and miss, just depends on who you playing so you don't get exposed.

It sounds hypocritical but i play cover 3 also just not all the time, only on certan pass plays. and i shoot my linemen in and take a de and rush outside. sometimes i take both ends and put them in contain for qbs who roll out. it works realy well on play actions unless the RB comes right to you then you tackle him no matter what you press.and takes you out of the position to make a play.
