The game was only good for about half of it. I get the whole "we blurred the lines between a FPS and an RPG" but the novelty of the game wears off quick. And with it being boring, the fact that it was so long actually takes away from the game. The storyline was good, but it's "Game of the Year" not "Book of the Year." If the story's great and the delivery is mediocre it isn't gonna be a good game. Perfect example is Haze. That was a great concept but the delivery was horrible and the game suffered because of it.
And like I said, you don't need to have a phenomenal multiplayer but you have to at least cover all your bases if you're gunna be Game of the Year.

Yeah multiplayer will help you overlook the fact single player gets boring. Most FPS single player gets boring.. once you get to try out all the weapons and meet most of the mobs, unless the story is amazing... meh.
Bioshock had a pretty good story, but even that got pretty predictable about 3/4 through.
