They layoffs are a result of non stop merging for the last decade with little to no payoff from the studios that were purchased.
Well, I think that $190B needs to be clarified.
$100B of that alone is mobile games, and somewhere in the range of $40B is microtransactions for PC/Console.
Games themselves aren't moving the needle for investors.
Pokemon Go, a 9 year old mobile game, had over $500M in revenue in 2024, while Clair Obscur, a highly acclaimed game, probably made half of that, if not less.
