My 1st experience was awful. But later loved it.
My father took my best friend and I to a place on Vets when we were about 13. We hated it. Couldn't make myself swallow b/c it was so nasty. I ended up eating a little of the smoked eel, and the rest I took a few bites, pretended to swallow and then went to the bathroom to spit it out. We must have flushed about 50 bucks worth of DAMN good sushi that Saturday. After that, I didn't go NEAR the stuff for years. It was about 5 years later while in school at Ole Miss that I wanted to impress a girl on a date. I asked where she wanted to eat, any where she wanted, and she picked a sushi place. I wasn't going to say no, so we went, I tried a piece of Smoked Salmon sushi expecting to have to excuse myself and instead, ended up ordering two more rounds of half the menu. Total bill was around 130 bucks (in 1994 dollars) and she had such a good time, I was "rewarded" that evening. Twice!!
Since then, I cannot get enough. If I had to choose something to eat for the rest of my life, it would be good sushi.

i thought it was so so, about three weeks later i had a huge craving for it, never looked back.
Exactly. We eat it at least once a week. My 5yo & 8yo even ask for it now.

I was very pleasantly surprised the first time I had any sushi. I'm a pretty picky eater, so I wasn't sure that I was going to enjoy it... but I did.
Not quite a 'love it' reaction, but now I eat sushi pretty regularly.
