So there is nothing that can be done to keep somewhat of the original pic for a tee shirt and not infringe on copyrights?

If you're not planning on mass marketing the tshirts and only using them for yourself, no one is going to give two damns.

Custom Ink wouldn't do it unless I got a letter from Takk and I'm pretty sure he can't write.

Where are you? My BFF prints his stuff in NOLA and the guy is gooooooooooooooooooooooood. Silk screening process is awesome if you haven't seen it in person.

The AP actually holds the copyright:
If you cannot find a print shop that will do it, a license from AP for apparel will cost you $425. You may be able to get a personal use license - not sure, but you could ask:
