Need to reduce a PNG file from 100k to under 30k without changing dimensions. Is this possible? Suggestions, options, explanations?

Depends on the image. Is it a photo or a graphic?

Yes, are you using Photoshop. If so under the File menu go to "save for web and devices". Once there on the right side of this screen look for the pull down tab that is usually set for .gif. Change that to png 8. This will reduce you greatly. If you want to further decrease your size you can change your color palette from 256 colors to 128.

Post your file and I will do it for you if you would like me to.

OK thanks guys, I'm using GIMP and it's a photo with transparent background/layers. Reducing color palette did the trick.

For GIMP, go to "Image -> Mode -> Indexed", select "Generate optimum palette", type desired number.
