Animated GIF fark help

I'm loving the animated GIF's shown on here by the seasoned farkers and wouldn't mind getting in on the action with my twisted humor. I get the basic idea behind them (frame by frame layer overlays or using match frame in premiere), but I could use some pointers. I have a mac and adobe creative suite CS5 (premiere, AE, photoshop).
1) If the scene I want to fark is on a DVD, what's the best mac software (preferably free) or combination of software products to get it in a format ready to import into a timeline?
2) What settings should I consider when I'm ready to export it to a gif (file size, length of the clip, resolution, etc) so it's uploadable to most file storage sites? Recommended settings?
3) Easier on Premiere, photoshop, or AE?
Thanks in advance!

I do most of mine on PSCS3 (semi old school).
If you have an animated .gif already:
1. File-->Import to layers (this is where the MB size comes into play)
2. Then use the "head" of whatever subject you are wanting to fark on a frame by frame basis to cover up the existing person's head.
If you have a youtube video or .avi/mpeg4 etc, you'll have to convert it to a .gif first and then file-->import to layers etc etc.
As stated on another fark thread, I taught myself how to do it so it's not too difficult once you understand frames and layers. Good luck!

Convert Youtube link
I've seen the KeepVid and similar online pages recently. I'm a little paranoid whenever a security warning pops up, asking me to accept and trust a site I'm not very familiar with. But if KeepVid is a widely used app, I should probably not be too concerned (famous last words?).
That's a good site. Thanks!

But do you or anyone else know about ripping DVDs to formats accepted by Premiere/AE, gif settings, etc?
Personally I don't reverse convert them. Usually I go from mpeg-->DVD. I'm sure you can find most of your scenes for your gifs online already without having to go through the hassle ya know? AE is wayyyy beyond my skill set so I can't help you there. NotoriousGOP I think works with it - plus he is damn good at his craft.
