Like the fading brush work on the bricks.

but depending on the texture of the object,

I selected the "backdrop" and copied 2 layers. On the underneath layer I desaturated it (not on the slider - just straight desaturate). On the top copy, I filled it in with solid royal blue. Then I changed the Blending Mode to Overlay (Color Mode works as well if you want it even brighter) to get this:
mmmmmkay
Oh man, I have some work to do...THANKS ALL OF YOU!!!

I can never get black color change to work for me, care to share the secret?
This is the method I used:
I used the Magic Wand tool and selected all the green in the helmet and Copy as Layer->Then I used the Magic Wand tool and select all the black in the helmet and Copy as Layer->Next I choose the green layer and go to Images->Adjustment->Hue/Saturation->Check box Colorization->Then I tool around with it until I get the color the way I like it->I then use the Clone tool to fill in any missing areas->At this point, the colors look a bit rough so; next I use the Blending Change and Opacity and this cleans it up nicely
I follow the same steps above for the layer of black
Once I have the color layers the way I like them, I merge those layers on top of the original layer->Then I usually go to Images->Adjustment->Curves->and then tool around with it, usually utilizing the Presets, to get it looking the way I like->I may even use the Hue/Saturation again to modify the colors.
I also use the OnOne Phototools plug-in to adjust color and add the black edge around the pics that I do.
That's about it, hope this was helpful?
Oh... By the way, as much as I'd like to-I cannot take credit for the wall. That is a picture of an actual mural that I came across while searching the internet.
