For those who seldom follow politics: Early returns mean very little

If a state is close or its going to switch parties from the last POTUS election, we won't know until at least half or so of the votes for that state are counted. Early returns from a state may be coming solely or largely from an area that isn't representative of that states politics.

For example, if the first 5% of Louisiana's votes are from New Orleans, that doesn't mean Louisiana is voting for Hillary, right?
