Set limits, but give em a bit more rope to run on. Start teaching em basic house stuff as you cook, fix, maintain. Make sure they maintain manners. When the inevitable meltdowns come around. Be calm, don't let em get you flustered. Sit em down and coax whatever it is out of em. Or if they can't yet, tell em to go behind their door, cry or fuss it out then come back to you.
We were all kids once. Doesn't mean let em get with everything but appreciate the point of view to help you guide what works and what doesn't between how you and your friends were raised to how you want to raise your kid.
Most importantly though, solid front with your wife. You can always hash out any disagreement when the kids aren't around.
