iPhone 7 - Storage - 78 GB System Storage?

What’s up with that? I have a 128 GB iPhone, and it says 78 GB of that storage is used by “System”. Does this involve iCloud storage? Do they just classify certain things that shouldn’t really be attributed to the system as “System” storage?
I’m not too worried as I’m not close to running out of storage, but this seems pretty excessive. Any clues?

Seems excessive. My system storage shows 21GB
