Those that have taken the CFP exam

How many hours a day/week did you study in preparation? How much experience did you have prior to sitting for it? Thanks gentlemen...

I'm actually interested in this exam, so I'm going to hop in this thread.

The body of knowledge is fairly extensive, so after taking the course (I used the college for financial planning) I probably spent 5-10 hrs per week leading up to the exam. I was also working as a financial advisor for about 4 years before taking the exam so I had a decent amount of "on the job" studying under my belt.
The biggest thing for me was remembering all of the different rules associated with financial products we were not using in our business. Good luck!

I understand the difficulty lies in the breadth of information. You say you studied 5-10 hrs a week post course leading up to.....How long was that period? Your gracious contribution is much appreciated.
My experience is 3 years at a wirehouse and 4 years as an RIA. I've also been partnered with a CPA firm 2 of those years(albeit I understand that won't help a lot). I'm just trying to figure out if I make a commitment to sitting for the exam, how long would I need to put in. Is it even feasible to think I could study 4 hours a day for 4 months?
