I will add that in my time on earth we had price controls on just about everything except healthcare. Oil and natural gas price capped at the wellhead. Steel, minimum price fixed at the mill. Airlines, minimum price fixed for fares.

The 50's and 60's economy was artificial AF. We got the gas lines and shortages in the 70's as a result. Oil companies could NOT afford to explore and drill while to even breakeven. Families had one car unless wealthy. You had to be on expense account or upper middle class to fly.

Government controlled more than it controls now. For the ignorant out there, GHWB was a leader in getting government out of price controls but it almost two decades for his efforts among others to be successful. As a result of that effort, leaders among indie oil companies in Texas switched to the GOP because the Dems refused to meet with them, GOP at least met with them. That is why Texas gradually flipped to the GOP over 3 decades.
