Chase was a slam dunk pick with both the higher floor and ceiling of the 2 prospects. Sewell was largely an unknown quantity
I’m not sure if this is accurate to be honest. Sewell definitely had the higher floor I think. His floor was a very good starting guard in the NFL.
Chase probably had the higher ceiling, as he was talked about by some as the best WR prospect in quite some time, since Julio. But before 2020, Sewell also got that same kind of talk as the best OT tackle in awhile. He definitely wasn’t an unknown commodity. He had more tape than Chase (2 seasons to basically 1)

Just seems like an enormous risk to pick a 350 pounder that is a year removed from playing football vs an otherworldly athlete in Chase that has elite on and off the field chemistry with your franchise QB.
Chase was obviously the right pick for the Bengals. But that’s not a knock on Sewell. Frankly, the Bengals didn’t need a tackle. Contrary to what the average fan on here said. Jonah Williams and Riley Reiff are good and solid players. They needed interior OL - guards and center. That’s where the OL is/was weak. And you don’t spend a too 5 pick on a guard. If they needed tackle help, Sewell is probably the pick.
