He actively campaigned against his team leading up to Bedlam against OU. This was the same week as LSU facing UGA in the SEC Championship game (Big XII didn't have a championship game at this time).

See this article from November 28, 2011

quote:

“If somebody sat me down and said (I) had to make a decision,” Gundy said, “with where we're at right now, Alabama lost to what would be the No. 1 team in the country (LSU), and Oklahoma State lost to Iowa State.

“In our situation, if I was doing it fair, I don't know how I could put us in front of (Alabama) right now.”

While those teams were preparing, Saban was making the media blitz to get voted #2. Pretty sure he was on Gameday for an extended segment the Saturday of both games as well (if not on there throughout the day).

After the win in Bedlam, Gundy made a few comments that they should be #2 but the damage was already done. He downplayed his team's stature for an entire week while Saban promoted his team.

If Gundy thought they should have a shot, he should have spoken up and acted like it then. To come back ten years later and wax poetic is disingenuous.

More or less yes, in one of his pressers he said he didn't think they where one of the 2 best teams in the country. Meanwhile saban begged for a rematch
