Going to be in Montana for a few days in early december (going to spend a few days after attending an event). What towns should we go to and what can you do that time of year? Seems like snowmobile tours don't start till the 15th.

That's a shame if nothing before the 15th for snowmobiles. I did Yellowstone on snowmobile for Christmas a couple years ago and was amazing. Like I've never seen it before. You can always rent some and stay out of the park. Plenty of trails they could point you too around west Yellowstone.
Road conditions can get a little dicey. If passable Ennis is always a town I love to visit. Hasn't been built up like Bozeman/Big Sky yet and not as many tourist spots as West.
Ice will be thick enough on some parts of Hebgen Lake and Henry's Lake to ice fish. Definitely at the start of the season though.
West Yellowstone will mostly be locals so all the bars etc will be a good time. Wild West pizza for their mac and cheese, beer, and karaoke is always a good time. Buffalo bar as well to catch a game and have some beers.
In West the grizzly and wolf center is a must do. The winter is really cool there as the bears do not hibernate. New wolf exhibit and otters are legit.

i am planning a summer trip starting in missoula, taking 200 through towns like thompson falls in sanders county up to sandpoint. then down to coeur d'alene and back home.
here is some info about sanders county and montana state route 200: https://sanderscounty.org
not sure what conditions will be like in december, except cold!

Is driving from Bozeman to Whitefish reasonable (as long as no blizzard) that time of year?
