Seems to mostly happen with women but some men too. People who every fall show up to watch parties, year after year, and just cheer when there’s a touchdown. I just couldn’t imagine going to games, centering weekends around a game, etc without knowing what pass interference is ? I’m sure they still have fun but it confuses me. Especially when it takes like 5 minutes to learn and then you just know the basic rules forever.
There are a lot of arcane rules that I doubt even coaches know. One time in HS we had too many men on the field. One of our guys was closer to the opposite sideline so he ran off over there. Unsportsmanlike conduct which ended up costing us the game.
