This is Biden’s failure, undoubtedly

1. I see a lot of “the Trump plan was awful”. Ok. Let’s assume it is. If what is going on in Afghanistan is due to the Trump plan, that means Biden, with 8 months of prep time, elected to go with an awful withdrawal plan. That is an undeniable admission of incompetence.
2. This is Biden’s plan. What a mess.
You can’t have it both ways. What is a fact, Joe Biden is the commander in chief and he is presiding over this mess. This is a failure of leadership. A leader is out in front of this the moment it goes sideways. Where is Biden? Where is Harris?
You can blame the bad orange man all you want, it won’t change what we are watching in real time.

We have no clue that this was Trump's plan. You shouldn't even start point 1 out that way.

Doesn’t matter what it was.
He’s not in control now.

No crap, but why assume this is Trumps plan. It is a asinine way to try and win an argument.

How could the US handle this better? The Afghan forces clearly didn't have the will to fight for their freedoms. You can't make people fight for what they don't believe in. They have to have the will to fight first.
The US never had a good exit plan and this failure goes back years with the inability to completely remove the Taliban from a position of power.

It’s an excellent point yet to be refuted. Note the lack of liberal posters.
Don’t take personal offense to a hypothetical scenario where Donald Trump made a mistake. Especially so when the moral of the hypothetical is that no matter how you spin this, joe Biden has failed the American people.

quote:his plan was to trust the taliban. his plan was to go to zero in 14 months, and release 5000 taliban prisoners, and end all their sanctions, because the fricking taliban signed a piece of paper.
Lets not assume that because it isnt true.

none of that is opinion or interpretation, its very literally the deal he signed.
was that a good plan? is that working out? art of the deal, yes or no?
EDIT: but Biden also fricked up, to be clear, no one is pretending otherwise. this is very obviously not good.

Yes. And here is why.
He struck a deal with the taliban to safely remove all American assets.
Why?
Because unlike his predecessors he realized that no matter when a withdrawal took place, the taliban was going to regain control. Like it or not. This was a failed attempt at nation building.
The terms of the deal are bad. But they ensured the safe withdrawal of American assets.

Keep toting that water jug you fricking clown.
We all wanted to be out of Afghan. Its been 20 years! We had a plan.
This was not it and it had nothing to do with Trump.

Might have been "Trump's Plan" but I can promise you one thing:
If Trump would have been in office it would have gone smoothly and not the Shitshow it is today!

This!
If they can completely reverse coarse on the Border in 1 day…then they were able to reverse AFG plan in 8 months.
Sorry, that talking point won’t hunt.
DEMs, if you believe that talking point…just remember this…when they talk about low information voters and you laugh along with then, know they are talking about YOU.

This is definitely Biden’s plan. And it has failed

Not to defend either Biden or Trump, but going back to the 15 years W and Obama had to win the thing when it was winnable. The only way to secure victory is to convince your opponent that it is over.
That is done by killing him until he cries, "Uncle!" We don't have the stomach for that since 1945 so we shouldn't do conventional war at all, except purely defensively. If we had killed the Taliban until they surrendered, then they would be either gone or part of the solution. When we decided we wouldn't/couldn't do that, the war was lost
Period.

Thank you for your candor. I respect your honesty. Especially so in the face of a board that is apt to shite on you regardless of your take.

Because unlike his predecessors he realized that no matter when a withdrawal took place, the taliban was going to regain control.
quote:look, youre being civil, I want to show you the same respect, but it pretty obviously didnt, right? it got some out, maybe most, theres no list that I know of, but a lot was pretty clearly left behind, including (according to donald) 2,000 troops.
The terms of the deal are bad. But they ensured the safe withdrawal of American assets.
everyone hates the endless war bullshite, everyone, its fricking awful, but look at this boards reaction the minute the taliban took over again. its a countdown to the next 9/11. thats why we stayed for 20 years, to keep them at bay.
which is also bullshite, the way to end the endless war was to hunt them the frick down, not give them what they want. no one ever did that, neither party, and I dont know why. theres no explanation good enough for that.
packing up and leaving made it all for nothing.

both sides agree on this, both sides would have supported that, and neither side did it. its disappointing.
