Obviously tough to argue with these 3, specifically as all the things the term "front man" encompasses.

Let's set this one aside, I can clearly see arguments for and against.

Bono

Obviously Freddie Mercury belongs on the list and this is the easiest one to knock off. Sort of a sorbet, to cleanse the palate, you should have led with Bono to allow us to progress to the real discussion.

How about some other cats who would be above Bono?

Ozzy
Daltrey
Axl (during the prime GnR, anyway)
Hetfield
Alice Cooper
Cobain
Vedder
Tyler
...etc.

(And Prince was a legendary performer, but perhaps transcended "front man" to more of a dynamic solo artist who identified as a band leader - other cats in this category would be Bob Seger and Tom Petty. Certainly if The Revolution is considered an actual band and not Prince's sidemen, then, Prince would definitely be above Bono as well )
