William Alexander Morgan was no "hero", but deserves the Hollywood treatment. I'd heard his name as a footnote to the Cuban Revolution, but never realized how interesting his life was. American citizen Morgan assists Castro/ Che in overthrowing the Cuban dictator Batista & then was executed for attempting to overthrow the Castro regime.
1) Ran away with the circus at age 15
2)awol after joining military in 1946
3)escapes prison & gets a Dishonorable discharge
4)becomes a mafia/mob muscle after 2 years prison
5)leaves his Snake Charmer wife to fight in Cuba
6)rises to Comandante & leads his own column of troops
7) Helps capture Santa Clara in defining Cuban battle
8)double crossed & thwarted the CIA attempt to overthrow Castro.
9)US citizenship revoked in 1959
10) realizes Castro is a Socialist & attempts to overthrow the Castro regime
11) executed in the presence of Fidel & Raoul Castro in 1961
12)Has US citizenship fully restored in 2007
Guys life could be an interesting Hollywood movie.

quote:The Cuban Revolution was very popular among Cubans & some like Ted Cruz's family supported it initially ( Marco Rubio & Ted Cruz's family fled Cuba under Batista. Not Castro). Vice President Richard Nixon even met with Fidel in '59 after Castro visited the US looking for American assistance/ support. Castro was eventually snubbed by the US & he turned to the Soviet Union for protection.
10) realizes Castro is a Socialist
Huh realizes???
Morgan was really no different than most Cubans who supported the Revolution. The US was so upset over their dictator ( Batista) caused them to frick up policy towards Cuba & allow the Soviets in.
One thing positive I can say about Morgan was that he fought against 2 dictators ( Castro & Batista) in Cuba. Most Cubans fled to the US when Morgan gave his life fighting for what he thought was freedom in Cuba.

All this:
Leads me to believe this is untrue:
Number one, Castro was a Communist. Although, Socialists and communists are both almost equally as shitty in my view.
But I highly doubt this jackass fought with Castro, Che, and the rest of the socialist/communist subhumans and just didn’t know the type of politics they wanted.

quote:I'm not sure Morgan ever met Castro before the Revolution. The Revolution had many different small Fronts/ Militias operating in the Mountains. Castro being the face , voice & inspiration.

Morgan was initially under the command of a man named Eloy Guitierrez Menoyo who fled to the US ( Miami) in 1961 because he was opposed to Communism. Castro wasn't an ideologue & most people weren't aware he would turn to the Soviets/ dictatorship. Morgan stayed behind & gave his life fighting 2 dictators when most Cubans fled.

Just like what is going on in America today, socialism is often deceptively cloaked in some other form of popular ideal or word salad.
Power to the People! Freedom from Batista!
Probably sounded like a good thing for a while there.

quote:Again. I doubt Morgan ever met Castro substantially during the Revolution. It consisted of small independent groups/ fronts fighting to overthrow Batista. After the revolution there was a power struggle to consolidate the these groups & the popular Fidel won out.

There were various political leanings in these groups. Most thought they were taking down a dictator in favor of a democracy.

I'm glad this piece of shite was shot, Castro was giving lard left speeches as early as the late 40's, he was never not a Socialist.

I can't repeat this enough times though. Most opposition Cubans fled the Island in fear of Batista or Castro. Morgan risked his life opposing both. But overall he was a nobody/ failure in America trying to reinvent himself in Cuba.

Yeah that’s what I’m saying, absent any evidence or at least indication otherwise.
