I've never watched, and likely won't, the sequel to Blade Runner

The original is enough for me.

“I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.”

I watched it a year or two after release and was extremely disappointed after all the hype. It looks and sounds gorgeous, but it makes two fatal flaws:

1. It adds nothing to the Blade Runner universe, just "Hey, remember this? Here it is." Jared Leto is the least menacing or memorable villain in a movie of this stature I can remember, and he just kinda poofs in and out.

2. Just because the atmosphere of Blade Runner was the most memorable part doesn't mean that you should replace story or plot with even more atmosphere.

If they had stripped out all the references, it would have been a perfectly good European-style techno action movie. Everyone would have liked it and talked about the homage it paid to Blade Runner.

But don't promise me Blade Runner and then not deliver a compelling story in that universe.
