I'll be the heavy on this.
Diamonds, jewelry, some designer handbags, etc. are likely appreciating or at least maintaining value. They can be passed down from the woman to her daughters and easily sold later.
By contrast, most of the shite men own won't do that outside of guns, ammo, or watches (so few people have them anymore).
Of all the shite that we buy for our spouses, gold or diamonds isn't really what I have a huge problem with. If you croak and leave her in a financial bind, she can sell that. And unlike phones, tablets, laptops, cars, trucks, boats, and all the other consumer crap that people buy so much of.....they are unlikely to depreciate very much and may appreciate over the years if it's good quality metal or diamonds.

You will be lucky to get 30% of your purchase price for a diamond the day after you bought it, when they say something depreciates like a falling stone they are literally talking about diamonds. To make the situation worse DeBeers spends millions of dollars in marketing every year to help assure a used diamond is seen by a woman as virtually worthless.
