Paul tells us that God does give people up to "dishonorable passions", so I do agree that it's possible that this is occurring in modern America.
This post's assumption is that we can be cautiously optimistic that this is not the case.
Rod Dreher used the imagery from Revelation about fleeing to the Judean Hills in regards to our current cultural state - I think it's quite apt. Still holding out and will continue to be *cautiously* optimistic.
