I'm sure you soured on Bregman after college but Nola was not indisputably better defensively than Breg. Breg was in the SC Top 10 more than once in a season and was great at a routine level as well
I didn't sour on Bregman at all. I love Bregman. Bregman was just not as good defensively at LSU as Austin Nola. Both made numerous highlight plays (as did Kramer Robertson)-- Nola just made less errors.
Nola made 34 errors in 4 seasons (fielding percentages of .960, .967, .950, and .980). Bregman made 36 errors in 3 seasons (fielding percentages of .939, .966, .975).
Bregman was great. Obviously he was the best overall shortstop we've ever had. He was a 9/10 defender. Nola was a 10/10. (Kramer was probably an 8/10.) Any college team would take any of the three to play shortstop for every game of every season and be extremely happy. But if you don't realize that Nola was a better college defender then you didn't watch enough of the games or your judgement is clouded because of Bregman's hitting ability, draft pick, or MLB ability.
