Starting in 1980, the following teams won their first national championships (using the Poll Era as a reference) during this period:
1980 - Georgia
1981 - Clemson
1982 - Penn State
1983 - Miami
1984 - BYU
1990 - Georgia Tech/Colorado
1991 - Washington
1993 - Florida State
1996 - Florida
Compare that with the 1970s where the only team to win their first national championship ever was Nebraska in 1970. That was a blue blood decade if there ever was one.
