I have in the past, but have gotten out of the habit. But you are absolutely correct.


Here is an issue - what to do with the firearm after. Obviously situation dependent. If you are in your home you may be able to leave it on the table.

But, if you are in downtown Portland you certainly are not going to be setting it on the ground waiting for the LEOs.

Do you tell dispatch, "please tell officers that my firearm is secured in my holster and I will turn it over when they arrive?"

Or, just be prepared to raise your arms and tell the first officer on the scene?

Kinda worrisome because who knows how dispatch is going to translate the message.

Completely dependent on the situation. Holstering it isn't something I'd do if I still thought a threat existed.

Looking at the situation with the Keltner shooting gives me hope that I wouldn't be shot, so long as I wasn't aggressive with law enforcement.

Of course, if there's no threat, holstering your weapon is the right answer.
