Which is why I usually try to set my targets at 20-25 feet at the pistol range. My thinking is that if I can get a nice, tight center mass grouping at that range, I should be fine closer in...even with a moving target coming at me. I will be bringing him down.

Yep, and practicing with shots firing with one hand close in to your body, because the reality is you may be in a situation where you need your off hand to fend off and/or block. Obviously such a shot would be at a few feet.
