I don't do it but it's pretty much always cheaper to keep repairing your old vehicles. Even if a new engine was 6k (just a guess) that would be a years worth of $500 notes.

Paying for a new car every 5-6 years is a big hit on your net worth over 30-40 years. If you can get 15 years out of one....DO IT.

Ideally, you can keep them longer if you get a job that requires a very easy commute or even work from home.
