Because some organizations realize that other organizations did not provide an ex coach with the right players, support, and environment. Think rick Carlisle being fired from pacers. Wins with Dallas. Sometimes coaches have better situational fits just like players

This is true, it can and has worked out for many coaches and team. Oftentimes that will be younger/newer guys or proven championship winners. Guys like Kerr or Spoelstra would and should be picked up elsewhere in a heartbeat if they left their current teams.

Others like D’Antoni, or Gentry before we hired him, have a larger sample size over many years with multiple teams. They are who they are. Gentry’s run was predictable as would be D’Antoni’s.

Under him, we may well see the playoffs more consistently. Unfortunately our ceiling would usually be the semis at best, MAYBE a conference finals appearance. But no championships just like his system everywhere else. That’s best case scenario, could easily be worse. Not to mention this team is not built to match his strengths. So why go that route and limit yourself?
