Just because you can do something (ride a bike on a busy road, instead of a sidewalk) doesnt mean you should.

In New Orleans and other cities, it is quite common to see adults riding their bicycles on the sidewalks. However, it is not legal. There are often ordinances that limit the use of sidewalks to pedestrians. Sometimes, small children are allowed to ride their bikes on the sidewalk.
quote:
Local City and Parish Ordinances
In Baton Rouge, there is no exception for small children:
Sec. 11:230. - Riding on sidewalks.
(a) No person shall ride a bicycle upon a sidewalk within a business district.
(b) The chief of police is authorized to erect signs on any sidewalk or roadway prohibiting the riding of bicycles thereon by any person and when such signs are in place no person shall disobey the same.
(c) Whenever any person rides a bicycle upon a sidewalk, such person shall yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian and shall give audible signals before overtaking and passing such pedestrian.
(City Code 1951, Title 11, § 230)
Not sure if homie was in a business district, but from the way the code is written, it sure seems like they don't want bicycles on sidewalks.
Hate it for yall, but bikes have every right to be on the road, and in most instances are required to be there. Hitting a cyclist does nothing but prompt me to ride in the middle of the lane to leave no doubt that people in motor vehicles see me.

No kidding. If you see a nest full of red wasps on your patio, and it's within easy reach, would you grab it with your bare hands to crush it because you can reach it?
I cycle too, but damn if you would catch me trying to ride on a busy assed street.
frick that nonsense. Every time one of them gets killed by a car they start whining about their rights.
The graveyard is full of people who were in the right. God gave you a brain, people. Use it.
