I gab been on Fentynyl patches at 125 micrograms every 72 hours for over a year. After radiation treatment almost 5 years ago for a rectal tumor, I was left with chronic radiation proctitus. The only way I can describe the pain is that it feels like someone shoved a pair of pliers up my arse and grabbed ahold of my rectal tissue and just starts twisting. The pain is completely debilitating. If the patches don't hold off the pain I have 10 mg oxycodone for breakthrough pain. I also use flexiril muscle relaxers to help with the rectal spasms that the docs think are causing most of the lingering pain.

For the record I have never felt any type of high from the fentanyl at all. If I need the oxycodone the sometimes I will feel a bit euphoric unless the pain is extreme like it gets to at times. Then I can take a double dose of oxycodone and not even feel any effects except the pain eases up until the oxy wears off.
I pray you never have to experience real, unrelenting, and severe pain. If you ever do then you will be glad that there are strong pain killers out there.

I have a friend (Game Warden) who was in a jeep/Humvee/whatever that hit a camel going about 60 MPH during Bush War #1 in Iraq. We was being prescribed OxyContin in 200 tablet bottles and still would cry out from time to time if he moved wrong.

Then they put him on Fentanyl patches and now he is fine. Goes to work every day and does his job. Was with him when he took on an 8 foot long angry alligator in some guy's cow pasture, so maybe the stuff makes him fearless - I don't know.
