The side effects of the Moderna vaccine seem pretty damaging, especially when you consider that their study participants are in much better health than the public at large:

There's nothing terrifying about what's been published from phase 1. Phase 3 will be the 100 ug dose. I guess you'd be terrified of the shingles vaccine. Maybe you're an antivaxer?

So I should look forward to taking a vaccine that CAUSES most of the same symptoms as the actual disease in 40%-100% of the test subjects?

I think I'll take my chances with a disease that I have a 99.96% chance of surviving anyway.

I'm not an anti-vaxxer. But realistically, this vaccine is an area of science that's less well-understood (mRNA) than viral vector vaccines. Therefore, the symptoms may be more difficult to manage, especially in the broader population, where people are less healthy and have a broad range of potential complicating factors.

Irregardless, if you have a significant number of people experiencing fatigue, chills, nausea, and/or pain after taking the vaccine, you're going to have a lot of pushback, especially for an entirely new type of vaccine. The combination of those reasons is why I'm less optimistic about Moderna.

But I would absolutely love to see Moderna prove my concerns wrong.
