Shine on you crazy diamond 1974
Roger Waters said when Syd added marijuana and acid(LSD) to his baseline schizophrenia he could no longer function. Syd was the main songwriter, singer, guitarist and handsome frontman for Pink Floyd throughout the late 60's. His mate David Gilmore eventually replaced Syd.

I liked Sid and without him, Pink Floyd probably never would have happened. His inspiration lived on after he was burned out.
But, I dont think Pink FLoyd would have ever reached the level they did without Gilmour replacing him even if he had not went off the edge. Floyd turned the corner from the psychedelic 60's to more of a rock sound during the Meddle album which laid the ground work for DSOtM and others.
Im not sure Sid would have even wanted or been able to be a part of a group that went the direction of main stream like they did. Gilmour filled that void and took them to music levels along with Rodger that they never would have accomplished
