quote:
I own two funds.
At some point in the future I'll add bonds to make it three.
I'm in 3 equity funds-
SPY 60%
IJR 20%
VXUS 20% (vanguard funds became available after the account opened, so I got out of a Eurozone find to get into the total international but never really felt compelled to exchange the other two).
I will probably not be adding a bond fund until I am ~45-50. I don't dislike bonds, I just think that all equities this early in my life is a better position.
And I actually front-loaded my retirement account this year and made my annual purchases on February 18. I just looked back to confirm- the record high close was 2/19 with another 3ish days of mild loss before the market rolled off the cliff. In retrospect, I wish I could have known the future, but I'm not particularly upset at the loss. I wouldn't be much happier to have a bond fund protecting some of that loss at this point. While I definitely don't feel GOOD about the amount that I've lost, I am confident that the payout for riding it out the next 10-15 years is going to be there, and the payoff will only become evident 30-35 years from now.
