This whole story sounds like it could be one of Louis C.K.'s "Of Course, But Maybe" bits.
Like, of course if someone gets killed by their dog... That's a horrible, awful tragedy. The entire world should feel sorrow for this poor lady. But maybe.... maybe.... if you get eaten to death by a 20-pound dog... you're supposed to die.

It was a former fighting dog, and it was clearly good at it since it wasn’t dead.
It isn’t that unbelievable that a 50-something woman couldn’t contain it.
