If you are a little handy and like home improvement projects an older home might be ideal. Ours was probably 70% updated when we bought it. I don't mind changing out sinks, toilets and a little flooring.

If not, find a remodeled one. There are some very nice new homes being built but I'd shy away from the national builders unless you don't mind particle board cabinets and undersized ac units.
