I'm late to the party, but I don't love Kirk Herbstreit's remarks. He is, undoubtedly, an influential voice among the many CFB media. We're at two weeks since the Bay Area went into "shelter in place" and 10-11 days for other major metropolitan areas, including Chicago and New York. The country is, very much, taking the spread of COVID-19 week-by-week. There's no telling what will happen in August - It's irresponsible speculation for Herbstreit to incite this sort of "fear" of cancelling CFB five months ahead of first games.
