This is an interesting topic. Can you shoot them with rubber bullets or beanbags? Maybe I need 2 guns one for home defense and another for protection of property. Also what about tranquilizer darts. I think I still have my blowgun in the attic

Of course.
In Louisiana, there is no specific mention of the type of weapon used, it's only titled 'Justifiable Homicide'. By law, that doesn't matter if it's by ball & chain(flail), Uzi or fisticuffs. Now that doesn't mean that the jury won't care. Firearms have been stigmatized in our society over the last 30 years.
You're unlikely to kill an individual with bean bags and rubber bullets, but it's possible.
