It’s just how the schedule worked out this year. After the semi-finals flopped when scheduled on Dec 31, they switched to playing on the semi’s on the closest Saturday to Dec 31. So, now we’re stuck with waiting this long.

Still doesn’t make sense though. Last year, the playoffs were on Dec 29 and the championship game was Jan 7. Looking forward the next six years the latest it will be played is the 11th and as early as the 5th.
